Men’s lacrosse team defeats Benedictine, 16-12, for first win in program history
The Olivet College men’s lacrosse team picked-up the first win in program history, defeating Benedictine (Ill.) University, 16-12, this afternoon at the Village of Lisle-Benedictine University Sports Complex in Lisle, Ill.
LISLE, Ill. – The Olivet College men's lacrosse team picked-up the first win in program history, defeating Benedictine (Ill.) University, 16-12, this afternoon at the Village of Lisle-Benedictine University Sports Complex in Lisle, Ill.
After the score was tied at 2-2, the Comets scored six unanswered goals to take an 8-2 lead. The Eagles stopped the run before Olivet scored three more goals to take an 11-3 lead at halftime. Benedictine outscored the Comets, 4-2, in the third quarter to trail by six, 13-7, entering the final quarter of play. The Eagles outscored Olivet, 5-3, in the fourth quarter but could not get any closer.
Freshman James Collins (Lowell) led the way for the Comets with five goals. Freshmen Matt Arb (Troy/Athens), Dakota Badder (Troy/Athens) and Joseph Brown (Bay City/Central) each tallied three goals. Arb also had two assists for six total points. Freshman Cameron Bazin (Troy/Athens) finished with five points on two goals and team-high three assists.
Sophomore Ryan McGee (Traverse City/Central) was the winning goalkeeper, recording 18 saves. Freshman Jordan Stover (Clarkston) won 16-of-28 face-offs.
The Comets are off until next Friday, March 8, when they host Milwaukee School of Engineering (Wis.). Game time at the Cutler Athletic Complex is 8 p.m.
