Men’s golf team ties for 10th-place at Nye Intercollegiate
The Olivet College men’s golf team posted back-to-back 347 teams for a two-round total of 694 strokes to tie for 10th-place (of 12 schools) at the 2014 Nye Intercollegiate. The 36-hole event was hosted by College of Wooster (Ohio) and played at the Wooster Country Club in Wooster, Ohio.

The 36-hole event was hosted by College of Wooster (Ohio) and played at the Wooster Country Club in Wooster, Ohio.
After being one stroke behind the Comets after the first round, Albion College beat them by two strokes today to share 10th-place. Denison (Ohio) University overcame a four-stroke deficit entering today's round to edge Allegheny (Pa.) College by one stroke, 625-626, for the team championship. College of Mount St. Joseph (Ohio) had the best second-round score, 311, to finish in third-place with a 628. Phil Gilmore from Mount St. Joseph was the tournament medalist with a 149.
Senior Nick Julian (Clinton Twp./Chippewa Valley) turned in Olivet's best performance with a two-day total of 156 strokes. His score was good enough to tie two other golfers, James Slovitt from Denison and Samuel Zamet from Allegheny, for sixth-place in the player standings. Over the course of the two rounds, Julian had five birdies.
Sophomore Benjamin Hart (Rockford/Lowell) improved by seven strokes today with an 81 for a two-round total of 169 strokes. Freshman Matt Sherry (Salem Twp./South Lyon) had a 179 (89-90). Junior Jake Maas (Olivet) completed his two rounds in 190 (93-97) strokes. Freshman Zachary Gray (Utica/East Detroit) finished with a 195 (97-98).
The Comets will play their final two rounds of the 2014 season next week. On Monday, Olivet will participate in the Steven Tyler Memorial Invitational, hosted by Kalamazoo College and played at The Moors Golf Club in Portage. On Saturday, the Comets conclude their season at the Bill Gettig Invitational, hosted by Trine (Ind.) University and played at the Zollner Golf Course in Angola, Ind.
