Olivet finishes in second place at the 2003 Comet Classic
The Olivet College men's golf team finished in second place (out of 16 teams) at the 2003 Comet Classic at Bedford Valley Country Club in Battle Creek.

After finishing with a score of 305 score in Friday's first round, the Fighting Comets shot a 298 for a two-day total of 603 strokes. Hope College also finished the tournament with a two-day score of 603 and declared the tournament champ because of its lower fifth-man score.
Leading the way for Olivet was junior Mike Dinner (Oakville, Ontario/St. Ignatius of Loyola), who earned tournament medalist honors with a two-day total of 141 strokes, including a one-under par 70 today. Senior Ryan Spencer (Oakville, Ontario/Oakville-Trafalgar) and sophomore Steve Ross (Rockford) shot identical scores of 77 and 76 each day for a 153, junior Jon Stapleton (Chatham, Ontario/Chatham-Kent) had a 156 and junior Andrew Wismer (Thornhill, Ontario/Thornhill Secondary) had a 163.
The second-teamers for Olivet also moved up a place today to finish in seventh place. Sophomore Mike Ward (Caledonia, Ontario) led second-teamers with a 149. He was followed by freshman Dan Wiers (Byron Center/Grand Rapids South Christian) with a 154, junior Jeff Jardine (Collingwood, Ontario/Collingwood Collegiate) with a 157, junior Stew Halstead (Kelowna, Ontario/Mount Boucherie) with a 159 and freshman Dan Kilberg (Rochester Hills/Rochester) with a 165.
Olivet will open its pursuit of a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association title this Tuesday, Sept. 9 with the first league jamboree at The Medalist Golf Club. Albion College is the host.
