Men’s basketball team upended by Ferris State, 116-83
The Olivet College men’s basketball team lost 116-83 to defending NCAA Division II champion Ferris State University tonight at Wink Arena in Big Rapids.

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – The Olivet College men's basketball team lost 116-83 to defending NCAA Division II champion Ferris State University tonight at Wink Arena in Big Rapids.

- The Bulldogs used a three-point play and three straight baskets from behind the arc to take a 12-2 lead in the first three minutes of the game. The Comets trimmed their deficit down to seven points on three occasions. After the last time at 17-10, Ferris State went on a 5-0 run to push its lead back to 12 points.
- Olivet closed the gap to nine points twice, 24-15 and 27-18. Another triple helped the Bulldogs' lead to double digits with 10:57 left before halftime. Ferris State extended its advantage to as many as 32 points, 62-30, in the last minute of the half.
- The Bulldogs held a 65-35 lead at halftime. In the opening 20 minutes of play, Ferris shot 63.9 percent (23-of-36), including 64.7 percent (11-of-17) from behind the three-point arc. Olivet made just 11-of-31 field goals (35.5 percent), with only three three-pointers.
- In the second half, the Bulldogs maintained at least a 23-point lead for the duration of it.
- Junior Trevor Manuel led all players with 27 points to go along with a team-high eight rebounds.
- Senior Chase Brocker added 13 points.
- Senior Dee Roberts had 11 points.
- All five starters and one player off the bench finished with double figures in the scoring column.
- Markese Mayfield led the way with 20 points.
- D'Angelo Hughes contributed 19 points.
- DeShaun Thrower had 18 points.
- Cole Walker and Greg Williams each chipped-in with 15 points.
- Jaylin McFadden added 13 points.
- Michael Peterson grabbed a game-high nine rebounds.
- Olivet has now played both the defending NCAA Division II and the NCAA Division III champion this season. Ferris State won the DII title in 2018, and Nebraska Wesleyan University captured the DIII title in 2018.
- The Comets are on the road Thursday night to play Elmhurst (Ill.) College. Tip-off is at 8 p.m. ET.
