Men’s basketball team concludes regular season with 95-88 loss at Calvin
The Olivet College men’s basketball team concluded the regular season portion of its schedule with a 95-88 loss Calvin College this afternoon at the Van Noord Arena in Grand Rapids. Depsite the loss, the Comets share the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) title and will be the No. 1 seed and host the 2018 MIAA Tournament next week.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Olivet College men's basketball team concluded the regular season portion of its schedule with a 95-88 loss Calvin College this afternoon at the Van Noord Arena in Grand Rapids. Depsite the loss, the Comets share the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) title and will be the No. 1 seed and host the 2018 MIAA Tournament next week.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After the Knights made the first basket, a three-pointer, senior Eldridge Mason drained two jumpers to put the Comets ahead 4-3. A layup gave the lead back to Calvin. The Knights did not relinquish their advantage for the rest of the half, leading by a 45-32 score at the break.
- Calvin continued to hold its lead in the second half until Olivet tied the game at 69-69 with 7:59 remaining. The Comets scored the next four points to go ahead 73-69. The Knights responded with a three-pointer and "old-fashioned" three-point play to take the lead back, 75-73.
- Junior Tracy Edmond evened the score with a pair of free throws. Calvin answered with a three-pointer before a Mason triple tied the game one more time at 78-78, with 3:44 left in the game. The Knights scored the next three points and did not give up the lead for the rest of the game.
- For the game, Olivet made more baskets 33-29. Calvin made up that difference by making 14-of-29 shots from behind the arc compared to 7-of-29 for the Comets.
FOR THE COMETS
- Edmond topped Olivet with 25 points and nine assists.
- Senior Jalen Adams finished with 24 points and nine rebounds.
- Mason contributed 13 points.
FOR THE KNIGHTS
- Derrick DeVries was one of five Calvin players to reach double figures in scoring with a team-leading 21 points.
- Luke Morrison and Michael Wilks came off the bench to net 20 and 13 points, respectively.
- Jason Walter chipped-in 12 points.
- Tony Canonie had 11 points.
- Austin Bykerk grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.

- The 2018 MIAA Tournament will take place next Friday and Saturday, Feb. 23-24, inside The Cutler Event Center. The Comets will play No. 4 seed Trine (Ind.)
