Adams’ double-double powers men’s basketball past Calvin, 79-71
Senior Jalen Adams posted his 10th double-double of the season to power the Olivet College men’s basketball team past Calvin College, 79-71, tonight at The Cutler Event Center in Olivet. With the win, the Comets stay in a three-way tie for first-place in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) standings.

OLIVET, Mich. – Senior Jalen Adams posted his 10th double-double of the season to power the Olivet College men's basketball team past Calvin College, 79-71, tonight at The Cutler Event Center in Olivet. With the win, the Comets stay in a three-way tie for first-place in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) standings.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Comets scored the first basket of the game. The Knights answered with seven straight points to go up 7-2. Olivet answered with a 10-0 run to take a 12-7 lead. Calvin closed the gap to two points, 20-18. The Comets used a 9-2 run to push their lead to nine points, 29-20.
- The Knights trimmed their deficit down to three points, 31-28, with 3:44 left before halftime. Olivet ended the half on an 11-2 run to gain its largest lead of the game, 42-30. In the first half, Adams scored 23 points.
- Early in the second half, Calvin cut the Comet advantage to four points twice, 45-41 and 47-43. Olivet extended its lead to as many as 14 points, 71-57, with 5:39 left in the game. The Knights did not go down without a fight, as two times, they cut their deficit to five points. The Comets made 3-of-4 free throws in the final 30 seconds to seal their win.
FOR THE COMETS
- Olivet made three less baskets and one less three-pointer than Calvin. The difference in the game was the Comets made 26-of-33 free throws compared to 11-of-17 for the Knights.
- Adams led all players with 32 points and 11 rebounds.
- Junior Tracy Edmond scored 17 points and dished out eight assists.
- Senior Eldridge Mason had 10 points.
FOR THE KNIGHTS
- Derrick DeVries scored a team-leading 23 points.
- Austin Bykerk recorded a double-double, 20 points and 10 rebounds.
- Jason Walter finished with 13 points.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The win snapped a 13-game losing streak to Calvin. The last time Olivet beat the Knights was Feb. 5, 2011.
- With his 32 points, Adams moved into seven-place on the Comets' single-season scoring list with 483 points. His other single-season ranks currently are fifth in field goals made, 189; and 10th in field goals attempted, 349.
