The Olivet College men’s basketball team came up short in a 111-90 final against John Carroll (Ohio) University in the opening game of the Hope College/Russ DeVette Classic inside the DeVos Fieldhouse in Holland.

HOLLAND, Mich. – The Olivet College men's basketball team came up short in a 111-90 final against John Carroll (Ohio) University in the opening game of the Hope College/Russ DeVette Classic inside the DeVos Fieldhouse in Holland.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Comets scored the first six points of the game, forcing the Blue Streaks to call a 30-second timeout. John Carroll answered with eight straight points to go up 8-6. From there, the game was back-and-forth until Olivet took the largest lead for either team at 28-20 with 8:04 left until halftime.
- The Blue Streaks came back with a 7-0 run to trim their deficit down to a single point. The Comets had a pair of a three-point leads, 30-27 and 33-30. John Carroll scored seven of the next nine points to take a 37-35 lead. Junior Tracy Edmond made four free throws to put Olivet back on top, 39-37. After the Blue Streaks leveled the score, the Comets used a 7-0 run to make the score 46-39.
- John Carroll responded with its own 10-0 spurt for a 49-46 lead. Edmond made a layup before two Blue Streak free throws made the score 51-48 at halftime.
- John Carroll turned up the defensive pressure in the second half to increase its lead to as many as 31 points, 100-69, at the 6:40 mark. The Comets fought back with 16-2 to cut their deficit down to as few as 17 points, 102-85.
FOR THE COMETS
- Edmond, and seniors Jalen Adams and Aaron Washington each contributed 16 points.
- Senior Eldridge Mason added 10 points.
- Senior Sirafino Davis pulled down a game-high eight rebounds.
FOR THE BLUE STREAKS
- Jackson Sartain led all players with 17 points.
- John Cirillo and Matthew Csuhran finished with 16 points apiece.
- Ryan Berger and Antonio Vuyancih had 14 and 12 points, respectively.
- Cshuran registerd a team-leading six rebounds.
- Sean Flannery dished out a game-best nine assists.

- The Comets face University of Mount Union (Ohio) tomorrow in second day of the tournament at 1 p.m.
