Olivet College junior center Michael McClary (Bellaire) has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Player of the Week for men's basketball. He is being honored for the fourth time this season and the sixth time in his career.
McClary helped the Comets win two MIAA games last week. In a 67-64 win at Hope College Jan. 13, he posted his eighth double-double, 22 points and 15 rebounds, of the season. McClary also blocked five shots and did not commit a foul or turnover in 37 minutes. He followed that performance with 23 points and eight rebounds in an 85-80 victory against Trine (Ind.) University Jan. 16. McClary blocked one shot to raise his career total to 109, which ties the Olivet all-time record.
For the season, McClary leads the team and league in scoring (18.7 ppg) and rebounding (10.9 rpg). His eight double-doubles also tops the MIAA.
Olivet (7-8, 2-2 MIAA) will be back in action Wednesday night at Adrian College. Game time at the Merillat Center is 7:30 p.m.
