Eight Olivet College football players named to All-MIAA teams
Eight Olivet College football players have garnered 2019 All-MIAA Teams. Senior offensive linemen Jarod Bush and Daniel Waber, senior defensive lineman Miguel Manion, senior running back Noah McMinn, sophomore defensive back Anthony Merriman, freshman defensive back Isaiah Moon and senior linebacker Kolby Williams are All-MIAA First Team selections. Sophomore tight end Seth Young is an All-MIAA Second Team pick.
FREELAND, Mich. – Eight Olivet College football players have garnered 2019 All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Teams. Senior offensive linemen Jarod Bush and Daniel Waber, senior defensive lineman Miguel Manion, senior running back Noah McMinn, sophomore defensive back Anthony Merriman, freshman defensive back Isaiah Moon and senior linebacker Kolby Williams are All-MIAA First Team selections.
Sophomore tight end Seth Young is an All-MIAA Second Team pick. All-league honors are based on the player's performance during the seven-game conference schedule.
Under the leadership of third-year head coach Dan Musielewicz, Olivet posted an 8-2 overall record, including tying for second-place in the MIAA standings with a 5-2 mark. The eight wins are tied for the third-most wins in school history for a season.
Bush and Waber blocked for a Comet offense which averaged 29.1 points and 363.0 total yards of offense in seven MIAA games. Of the 363 yards, 202 came on the ground. Young caught eight passes for 145 yards. He also did an exceptional job as a blocking tight end.
McMinn had 155 carries for 786 yards to lead all MIAA players. He rushed for eight touchdowns and caught two touchdown passes to tie for the second-most points with 60.
Manion was the conference leader with five-and-one-half quarterback sacks, and tied for second with eight tackles for loss. Merriman finished the seven league games with 39 total tackles, including 29 solo stops. He intercepted two passes, the first to seal Olivet's win against Adrian and the second was returned 45 yards for a touchdown against Alma.
Moon had only 18 total tackles in league play but was instrumental in helping the defense allow only 172.1 passing yards per game. Williams led Olivet and tied for sixth in the MIAA with 53 tackles. He had five tackles for loss, including two sacks.
For the entire 10-game schedule game, the Comets averaged 29.9 points and 364.3 yards per game. The rushing attack produced 194.1 yards per game, led by McMinn's 1,090 total yards and 13 touchdowns. The yardage ranks fourth all-time at Olivet for a single-season. McMinn also snared 21 catches for 173 yards. Young hauled in 15 passes for 218 yards and three touchdowns.
Williams was the team leader with 63 total tackles. Merriman finished the season with 54 tackles and three interceptions. Manion and Moon totaled 25 tackles apiece. Among his 25 tackles, Manion had 11.5 stops behind the line of scrimmage and forced three fumbles.
