Olivet College’s Merriman named MIAA Defensive Player of the Week
Olivet College sophomore Anthony Merriman has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Defensive Player of the Week for football.
FREELAND, Mich. – Olivet College sophomore Anthony Merriman has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Defensive Player of the Week for football.
Merriman returned an interception 45 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter to help the Comets beat Alma College, 28-13, Nov. 9 at Bahlke Field in Alma. In addition, he had eight total tackles (three solo and five assisted).
For the season, Merriman has recorded 36 solo and 13 assisted stops for 49 total tackles. He has three interceptions with 79 return yards.
The Comets (8-1, 5-1 MIAA) host Albion College in their season-finale on Saturday. Kick-off at the Cutler Athletic Complex is set for 1 p.m. With a win, Olivet would clinch sole possession of second-place in the league standings and tie for the most wins in a school history for a season.
