The Comets enter the game with a 4-1 overall record, with a 2-0 record against MIAA opponents. After losing its season-opener to Heidelberg (Ohio) University, Olivet has bounced back to win four straight games. In league play, the Comets have beaten Finlandia University, 72-7; and Adrian College, 50-22. For the season, the Comets are averaging 472.6 yards of offense -- 268.8 on the ground and 203.8 through the air. Sophomore Matthew Ellis is the top running back with 541 yards and seven touchdowns. Senior Jamaul Martin also has seven touchdowns to go along with 500 rushing yards. Senior quarterback Lane Porter has thrown for 948 yards and 10 touchdowns on 74-of-107 passing. Senior Jacob Jodway has 12 receptions for a team-high 292 yards. Senior Nick Thomas has caught a team-leading 18 passes for 197 yards and three touchdowns. Senior tight end Chris Talbott also has two touchdown receptions.
Defensively, senior Chase Cavric has a team-high 41 total tackles, including three quarterback sacks. Senior Jacob Jordan is next with 26 tackles. Senior Mo Young leads all players with 4.5 tackles for loss. Sophomore John Adams III leads the secondary with four interceptions and six pass break-ups.
On special teams, junior Douglas Pollard has made five field goals and 28-of-29 PAT kicks for 43 points. In addition, he does kickoff duties, with a 57.7 average on 41 kicks. Freshman Tyrain Connor has handled the punting duties and is averaging 37.1 yards on nine boots. Adams III has returned nine kickoffs for 188 yards and three punts for 35 yards. Martin is averaging 20.0 yards on five kickoff returns. Sophomore Hayden Barry-Coulier has 10 punt returns for 101 yards.
As a team, Olivet leads all NCAA Division III schools with four blocked punts and third with six total blocked kicks. The Comets are one of six schools who have scored every time the offense has been in the red zone. Olivet is also one of two NCAA DIII schools who have committed only one turnover (fumble or interception).
Trine enters the game with a perfect 5-0 record. The Thunder's wins in MIAA play were 35-25 at Hope College and 52-24 at home against Alma College. The offense is averaging 455.6 yards per game, with 332.8 yards on the ground. Lamar Carswell is one of the top running backs in NCAA Division III football, as he is averaging 205.8 yards per game and has scored 17 touchdowns. Two quarterbacks -- Brandon Winters and Andrew Duckett -- have combined to complete 50-of-69 passes for 608 yards. Winter has thrown three touchdowns, while Duckett has four touchdown passes. Jeffery Barnett is the leading receiver with 18 catches for 280 yards. Simeon Washington tops the defense with 34 tackles.
