OLIVET, Mich. -- The Olivet College football team opens Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) play when it hosts Finlandia University for its annual Homecoming contest. The Comets enter the game with a 2-1 overall record. After losing its season-opener to Heidelberg (Ohio) University, 21-17, Olivet has bounced back to Concordia University Chicago (Ill.), 52-25, and Benedictine (Ill.) University, 42-16. For the season, the Comets are averaging 442.3 yards of offense -- 245.0 on the ground and 197.3 through the air. Sophomore Matthew Ellis tops the team with 385 rushing yards and four touchdowns. Senior Jamaul Martin also has four touchdowns to go along with 331 rushing yards. Senior quarterback Lane Porter has completed 46-of-71 passes for 592 yards and five touchdowns. Senior Jacob Jodway has seven catches for a team-high 203 yards. Senior Nick Thomas has hauled in a team-high 12 passes for 142 yards and two touchdowns. Senior tight end Chris Talbott also has two touchdown receptions.
Defensively, senior Chase Cavric has a team-leading 31 total tackles, including two quarterback sacks. Senior Jacob Jordan is next with 20 tackles. Sophomore John Adams III leads the secondary with three interceptions.
On special teams, junior Douglas Pollard has made two field goals and 15-of-15 PAT kicks for 21 points. He and freshman Tyrain Connor have split punting duties, with Pollard averaging 37.6 yards on seven kicks and Connor averaging 32.0 yards on six kicks. In addition, Pollard has handled kickoff duties, with a 58.2 average on 20 kicks. Adams III has returned seven kickoffs for 115 yards and two punts for seven yards. Martin is averaging 17.5 yards on four kickoff returns. Sophomore Hayden Barry-Coulier has four punt returns.
Finlandia, an affiliate member of the MIAA, enters the game with a 0-3 record. The Lions have lost 31-3 to Concordia University (Wis.), 70-0 to Ripon (Wis.) College and 34-12 to Eureka (Ill.) College. In three games, Finlandia is averaging 197.3 yards of offense while giving up 467.3 yards per game. Eric Kostrevea and Justin Woolever have 77 and 72 rushing yards, respectively. De'Llontae is 26-of-58 passing for 304 yards. Kenny Kujawa tops the receiving corps with 177 yards on nine receptions. Marvin Anthony leads the defense with 25 tackles, and Dillon Hueckstaedt is next with 24.
