Seven Olivet College football players named to 2017 All-MIAA teams
Seven Olivet College football players have been named to the 2017 All-MIAA teams. Senior wideout Kornelius Saxton and freshman defensive back John Adams III earned first-team All-MIAA honors. Senior defensive linemen Robert Cuba and Tyler Douglas, junior wideout Jacob Jodway, senior defensive back Walter Love III and senior offensive lineman Jakeup Stuller are second-team All-MIAA selections. Adams III was also added to the list as a second-team return specialist.
FREELAND, Mich. -- Seven Olivet College football players have been named to the 2017 All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) teams. Senior wideout Kornelius Saxton and freshman defensive back John Adams III earned first-team All-MIAA honors. Senior defensive linemen Robert Cuba and Tyler Douglas, junior wideout Jacob Jodway, senior defensive back Walter Love III and senior offensive lineman Jakeup Stuller are second-team All-MIAA selections. Adams III was also added to the list as a second-team return specialist. All-conference honors are based on the players' performance during the six-game league schedule.
Under the leadership of first-year head coach Dan Musielewicz, the Comets finished the 2017 season with a 5-5 overall record, including a 3-3 mark against MIAA rivals. Olivet has now had five straight seasons with a .500 or better record.
Saxton broke the Comets' single-season record for pass receptions (77) and receiving yards (1,049). He was fourth on the team in scoring with 36 points. Jodway hauled in 39 passes for 892 yards and eight touchdowns. His 50 points ranked second on the team.
Adams III registered 35 total tackles and three interceptions with 50 return yards. He also led the MIAA with 18 pass break-ups. Adams III averaged 32.4 yards on 11 kickoff returns. Love III led the defense with 91 total tackles. Cuba recorded 34 tackles, including a team-leading 5.5 quarterback sacks for minus 38 yards. Douglas finished the season with 17 tackles, with 4.5 for negative yards.
Stuller helped block for an offense which averaged 382.8 yards per game.
