Football team ends season with 14-7 loss at Hope
The football team ended its season with a tough 14-7 loss against Hope College today at the Holland Municipal Stadium in Holland.
HOLLAND, Mich. --The Olivet College football team ended its season with a tough 14-7 loss against Hope College today at the Holland Municipal Stadium in Holland.
The Flying Dutchmen scored a touchdown in each quarter of the first half. The first one came at the 9:51 mark of the opening quarter when Chris Feys connected with Kyle Dietrich from eight yards out. The second one was at the 5:23 mark of the second stanza on a six-yard pass from Feys to Dietrich.
Olivet put its seven points on the scoreboard on its first possession of the second half. The eight-play, 64-yard drive was capped by a 12-yard touchdown reception for senior J.W. Seekman (Martin) from sophomore quarterback Tony Phillips (Lansing/Waverly). Neither team could generate any more scoring in the game.
For the game, the Comets were held to 192 yards of offense. Junior Mike Martin (Caledonia/Wayland Union) led the ground game with 18 carries for 46 yards. He also caught three passes for a team-leading 52 yards. Phillips and junior C.J. Gregory (Plymouth/Canton) combined to complete 15 passes for 138 yards. Defensively, freshman Matt Roberts (Marshall) had a game-high 13 tackles and forced fumble. Sophomore Glenn VanNortwick (Wayland/Wayland Union) also reached double figures in tackles with 12. Junior Robby Jensen (Boyne City) picked off two Feys' passes.
Hope finished with 292 yards of offense. Shawn Jackson carried the ball 10 times for a team-high 66 yards. Feys was 12-of-32 for 149 yards and two touchdowns. Dietrich led all receivers with six catches for 66 yards. Kyle Warren recorded a team-leading 12 tackles, while Zach Jones and Jordan Morse each had 10.
