Football team loses at Kalamazoo, 33-13
The football team lost 33-13 to Kalamazoo College this afternoon at Angell Field in Kalamazoo.
KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Olivet College football team lost 33-13 to Kalamazoo College this afternoon at Angell Field in Kalamazoo.
The Hornets took a 7-0 lead on a 13-yard pass from Sam Landry to Jimmy Frye. Olivet tied the game with a five-play, 28-yard drive, capped by a six-yard touchdown run by junior Mike Martin (Caledonia/Wayland Union) and sophomore Blake Iobe's (Marshall) PAT kick. The drive was set-up when senior Nick Glass (Flint/Powers) blocked a punt.
From there, Kalamazoo scored 26 unanswered points. Twelve of the points were on four field goals (36, 46, 20, 21) by Travis Braun. The other 14 points were on a 3-yard touchdown run by Landry and an 18-yard touchdown reception by Dimeko Price from Landry. The Comets scored their final touchdown with 4:35 left in the game when junior C.J. Gregory (Canton/Plymouth) ran the ball into the end zone from one yard out. The two-point conversion attempt failed.
Olivet had 78 plays for 288 yards to 70 plays and 341 yards for the Hornets. Martin carried the ball 15 times for 96 yards, while sophomore Lawrence Moss (Brighton) had 19 rushes for 78 yards. Gregory and sophomore Tony Phillips (Lansing/Waverly) combined to complete 9-of-31 passes for 115 yards. Moss was the leading receivers with three catches for 25 yards. Defensively, Glass, senior Chris Behnke (Bellevue/Olivet) and junior Robby Jensen (Boyne City) had seven tackles apiece.
For Kalamazoo, Price led the team with 18 carries for 83 yards. Landry rushed for 66 yards and threw for 148 yards on 12-of-26 passing. Frye caught four passes for 55 yards. Three others each had two receptions. Mike Page led the defense with seven total tackles.
The Comets are back in action next Saturday, Oct. 23, when they host Albion College at 1 p.m.
