Olivet College’s Patten selected as MIAA Special Teams Player of the Week
Olivet College sophomore punter Ryan Patten (Charlotte) has been selected as the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Special Teams Player of the Week.
Olivet College sophomore punter Ryan Patten (Charlotte) has been selected as the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Special Teams Player of the Week. Patten helped the Comets beat Kalamazoo, 51-0. With the win, Olivet (6-4, 6-1 MIAA) secured its first MIAA championship since 1974 and the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Playoffs.
Patten punted the ball four times for 196 yards, a 49.0 average. His punts went 46, 41, 52 and 57 yards, with two touchbacks and landing one inside the opponent's 20-yard line. Prior to the game versus Kalamazoo, Patten was ranked third among NCAA Division III in punting average. For the season, he is averaging 43.1 yards per punt with a long of 58 and 12 landing inside the 20.
Olivet travels to play Central (Iowa) College in the first round of the NCAA Playoffs Saturday, Nov. 17, at noon CT.
