Olivet College’s Thomas named MIAA Defensive Player of the Week
Olivet College senior linebacker DeRan Thomas (Detroit/H.W. Notre Dame) has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Defensive Player of the Week for football.
Olivet College senior linebacker DeRan Thomas (Detroit/H.W. Notre Dame) has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Defensive Player of the Week for football. He helped the Comets (5-4, 5-1 MIAA) defeat Hope, 28-25, Nov. 3 and force a three-way tie for first-place in the league standings.
Thomas finished the game with 13 total tackles, including 4.5 for loss yardage. He also recorded one pass break-up and one quarterback sack. For the season, Thomas has 37 solo and 38 assisted tackles for 75 total stops. He is second in tackles for loss (13.0 for 36 yards) and tied for second in quarterback sacks (4 for 22 yards).
Olivet will host Kalamazoo College Nov. 10, closing out the regular season portion of its schedule. Kickoff from the Cutler Athletic Complex is 1 p.m. With a win, the Comets will clinch at least a share of the 2007 MIAA Championship.
