Baseball team suffers 2-1 and 12-3 losses to Alma
The Olivet College baseball team suffered two losses to Alma College, 2-1 and 12-3, in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) doubleheader this afternoon at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet.

OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College baseball team suffered two losses to Alma College, 2-1 and 12-3, in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) doubleheader this afternoon at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet.

- The Comets led 1-0 behind an RBI-single by junior Riley Bennett in the first inning.
- The Scots scored their runs in the third inning.
- Olivet was held to five hits.
- Junior Brandan Settles scored the lone run.
- Sophomore Max Daust was the tough-luck losing pitcher. Both runs he allowed were unearned.
- Pete Carravallah and Carter Sanderson each had two hits.
- Max Trucks drove in a run on a sacrifice fly.
- Aaron Saenz was the winning pitcher.
- The Scots plated one run in the first inning and two more runs in the second inning for a 3-0 lead.
- Olivet scored its first run in the home half of the second inning. Freshman Matt Hewitt executed a perfect squeeze bunt to score senior Jake Robinson.
- Alma pushed across three runs in the third and two runs in the sixth to make the score 6-1.
- The Comets got two runs back in the last half of the sixth inning. Senior Dugan Dieselberg brought home the first run with a sacrifice fly, and Robinson hit an RBI-single.
- The Scots capped the scoring with a four-run ninth inning.
- Olivet totaled seven hits.
- Robinson went 2-for-4 with a double, RBI and run.
- The only other extra-base hit was a double by sophomore Logan Sella.
- Six pitchers combined to throw the nine innings. Junior Tim Sines was tagged with the loss, as he gave up three runs (one earned) on five hits over the first two innings.
- Alma recorded 15 hits.
- Logan Huff was 4-for-5 with two runs and two RBI.
- Zach Schirmer had three hits, including a home run, and drove in two runs.
- Sanderson tallied two hits, two RBI and two runs.
- Carson Kempa tossed the first five and two-thirds innings to pick-up the win. He surrendered three runs on four hits. Three relievers gave up three hits over the final three and one-third innings.
- Weather permitting, the teams will finish the four-game series tomorrow with a doubleheader at Klenk Park in Alma, starting at 2 p.m.
