Baseball team tripped up by Bluffton, 4-3
The Olivet College baseball team fell to Bluffton (Ohio) University, 4-3, in its final non-conference game of the 2018 season this afternoon at Memorial Field in Bluffton, Ohio.

BLUFFTON, Ohio – The Olivet College baseball team fell to Bluffton (Ohio) University, 4-3, in its final non-conference game of the 2018 season this afternoon at Memorial Field in Bluffton, Ohio.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Comets took a 1-0 lead in the second inning. With the bases loaded, freshman Logan Sella hit a sacrifice fly to plate sophomore Riley Bennett.
- Sella came around to score Olivet's second run in the fifth inning.
- The Beavers took advantage of two Comet errors to score three unearned runs in their half of the fifth inning.
- Olivet leveled the score with a run in the top half of the sixth inning. Two hit batters were sandwiched around on a double by junior Dugan Dieselberg to load the bases. Freshman Junior Gomez hit a sacrifice fly to bring home the run.
- Bluffton scored what proved to be the winning run in the bottom part of the seventh inning. After a lead-off walk, the runner went to third on an errant pickoff attempt, the next batter hit an RBI-single.
- The Comets were retired 1-2-3 in both the eighth and ninth innings.
FOR THE COMETS
- Batting as the designated hitter, Dieselberg went 2-for-4 at the plate.
- Four other players each had a hit.
- Freshman Brenden Huggler started on the mound and allowed the first three runs on five hits over four and two-thirds innings.
- Freshman Spencer Naffziger was charged with the loss after giving up the winning run in two innings.
- Senior Joseph Crosby threw the final inning and one-third. He has now made 20 appearances on the mound this season and is one shy of tying the single-season school record of 21 by Steven Oginsky during the 2007 season.
FOR THE BEAVERS
- Ryan Golden and Lenny Winiarski both were 2-for-3.
- Three different players each drove in a run.
- Hunter Mills threw the first six innings and gave up three runs on six hits.
- Mike Aman tossed three hitless innings of relief to pick-up the win.
UP NEXT
- The Comets face Kalamazoo College in their final four-game Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association series. The first two games will be played tomorrow in Kalamazoo, and the final two games Sunday in Olivet. Both doubleheaders feature a 1 p.m. start time.
