Baseball team loses two games at Adrian, 9-1 and 10-9
The Olivet College baseball team lost both games of a doubleheader to defending Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) champion Adrian College today at Nicolay Field in Adrian. The Bulldogs won the first game 9-1. Olivet rallied from an 8-0 deficit to send the second game to extra innings before falling 10-9 in 10 innings.

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Olivet College baseball team lost both games of a doubleheader to defending Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) champion Adrian College today at Nicolay Field in Adrian. The Bulldogs won the first game 9-1. Olivet rallied from an 8-0 deficit to send the second game to extra innings before falling 10-9 in 10 innings.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME ONE)
- The Bulldogs pushed across two runs in the second inning.
- The Comets used a two-out rally to plate their run in the fourth inning. Freshman Junior Gomez lined a double of the wall in right field and came around to score on junior Dugan Dieselberg's single into shallow center field.
- Adrian ended the game by scoring seven unanswered runs – two in the fifth inning and five in the sixth inning.
FOR THE COMETS
- Five different players recorded a hit.
- The aforementioned double by Gomez and a double by sophomore Aaron Gillespie were the lone extra base hits.
- Freshman Ryan Rivard threw the first four and one-third innings to be tagged with the loss.
FOR THE BULLDOGS
- All nine position players had at least one hit, with five posting a multi-hit game, and eight of the nine scored a run.
- Hunter Hayes finished with two hits and three RBI.
- Frank Resto also had two hits and two RBI.
- Tommy Parsons, the 2016 and 2017 MIAA Most Valuable Pitcher, went the distance on the mound to improve his record to 5-0 in 2018. He struck out six and did not walk a batter.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME TWO)
- Adrian scored three runs in the third inning and added another run in the fourth inning for a 4-0 lead.
- The Bulldogs doubled their lead with a four-run sixth inning.
- The Comets dented the scoreboard for the first time with five runs in the seventh inning. The big hit of the inning was a three-run homer by Gillespie.
- Adrian got one back in the home half of the seventh.
- Olivet then rallied for four runs – two in both the eighth and ninth innings – to tie the game.
- The Bulldogs left the winning run stranded in scoring position in the bottom half of the ninth.
- Adrian used a walk with the bases loaded to walk off with the victory.
FOR THE COMETS
- At the plate, Olivet had nine hits.
- Gillespie was 2-for-5 with three RBI.
- Freshman Riley Bennett and junior Jake Robinson each had two hits. One of Bennett's hits was a double.
- Senior Aiden Holliday hit a two-run double.
- Five pitchers were used in the game. The loss was charged to senior Joseph Crosby.
FOR THE BULLDOGS
- Hayes and Resto each had three hits. Hayes also drove in three runs.
- Jordan Torrento tallied two hits, two runs and three RBI.
- Adrian also had five pitchers throw in the game. Mo Hanley was the winning pitcher.
