The Olivet College baseball team was swept by Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) rival Hope College today at Boeve Stadium in Holland. The Flying Dutchmen won by scores of 4-0 and 7-2.

OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College baseball team was swept by Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) rival Hope College today at Boeve Stadium in Holland. The Flying Dutchmen won by scores of 4-0 and 7-2.
THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME ONE)
- Hope scored the only run it would need in the second inning. The Flying Dutchmen added three insurance runs in the bottom of sixth inning.
FOR THE COMETS
- Freshman Ben Compton reached base safely in each of his three plate appearances, twice via singles and the third time on a walk.
- Junior Dugan Dieselberg also had a pair of singles.
- Freshman Ryan Rivard took the pitching loss despite allowing one earned run on six hits over five and one-third innings. Senior Joseph Crosby finished the game in relief.
FOR THE FLYING DUTCHMEN
- Four of the eight Hope hits were doubles, and a fifth was a triple.
- Evan Maday was 2-for-4 with a double, triple, run and RBI.
- Danny Carrasco and Cody Houts had two hits apiece.
- Max Gaishin scattered four hits and struck out nine over his six innings to earn the pitching win.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME TWO)
- Hope did used three hits to score three runs in both the first and seventh innings. The big hit of the opening inning was a two-run homer.
- The Comets had a two-out rally to push across their two runs in the top half of the eighth inning. With two runners in scoring position, Dieselberg lined a single into left field to score both runners.
- The Flying Dutch capped the scoring with a double steal in the home half of the eighth.
FOR THE COMETS
- Junior Jake Robinson was 2-for-2 with a run.
- Freshman Junior Gomez also tallied two hits, including a double.
- Freshman Domanic Smith lasted only one inning to be charged with the loss.
- Senior Aiden Holliday tossed five and one-third innings of relief, giving up two runs on seven hits.
- Freshman Brenden Huggler and sophomore Huston Snyder also threw in relief.
FOR THE FLYING DUTCHMEN
- Maday recorded four hits in five at-bats.
- Jordon Fairchild was 2-for-2, including the two-run homer in the first inning.
- Carrasco and Trace Slancick also collected two hits apiece.
- Ted Eppinga picked-up the pitching win after allowing five hits in six innings.
UP NEXT
- Olivet faces defending MIAA champion Adrian College in its next four-game series. The Comets host Adrian College Saturday afternoon before traveling to play the Bulldogs Sunday afternoon at Nicolay Field in Adrian. Both doubleheaders have a 1 p.m. start time.
