Baseball team defeats FDU-Florham, 7-6
The Olivet College baseball team defeated Farleigh Dickinson University-Florham, 7-6, this morning at the RussMatt Invitational and inside the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex in Auburndale, Florida.

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Olivet College baseball team defeated Farleigh Dickinson University-Florham, 7-6, this morning at the RussMatt Invitational and inside the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex in Auburndale, Florida.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After the Devils scored two runs in the top half of the first inning, the Comets immediately answered with three runs in the home half of the inning. Three players each drove in a run.
- Olivet added another run in the second inning and two more runs in the third inning to stretch its lead to 6-2.
- Farleigh Dickinson tied the game with a four-run fifth inning.
- The Comets scored what proved to be the winning run in the last half of the fifth. Sophomore Aaron Gillespie led off with a single and advanced to second on a wild pitch. After stealing third base, he then scored on throwing error by the catcher.
FOR THE COMETS
- At the plate, Gillespie was 3-for-5 with two runs scored.
- Freshman Junior Gomez also had three hits.
- Freshman Riley Bennett drove in two runs.
- Freshman Ryan Rivard picked-up the pitching win in relief of freshman starter Domanic Smith. Rivard threw a scoreless inning, while Smith allowed four earned runs on 10 hits over five innings.
- Senior Joseph Crosby earned the save after throwing the final three innings and giving up just two hits. He struck out three and walked one.
FOR THE DEVILS
- Reynaldo Diaz had three hits, including two doubles. He also scored two runs.
- Joseph Bonaccorso and Nick DeAngelis also tallied a multi-hit game, with two hits apiece.
- Walter Pennett was the losing pitcher after yielding the go-ahead run.

- Olivet concludes its trip to the Sunshine State tomorrow with a 2:45 p.m. game against University of Minnesota-Morris.
