Walters’ pitching gem helps baseball team beat Illinois Tech, 6-1
Sophomore Zac Walter allowed one earned run on seven hits in eight innings pitched to lead the Olivet College baseball team to a 6-1 win over Illinois Institute of Technology this afternoon at RussMatt Invitational and on the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex field Auburndale, Florida.

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – Sophomore Zac Walter allowed one earned run on seven hits in eight innings pitched to lead the Olivet College baseball team to a 6-1 win over Illinois Institute of Technology this afternoon at RussMatt Invitational and on the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex field Auburndale, Florida.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Scarlet Hawks scored their only run in the bottom half of the first inning. Illinois Tech had a chance to score more runs but freshman Logan Wheeler gunned down a runner trying score for the final out of the inning.
- The Comets did not score any runs until the sixth inning. Junior Jake Robinson walked to lead off the inning. Sophomore Brandan Settles came into the game to run for him. Sophomore Aaron Gillespie lined a single into the right-center field gap to advance Settles to third base. Both runners came around to score on a double down the right field line by freshman Junior Gomez.
- Olivet took advantage of three Illinois Tech errors to push across two more runs in the seventh inning.
- The Comets added another run in the eighth inning. Sophomore Riley Bennett reached base on a fielder's choice and came around to score on a triple by freshman Logan Sella.
- Olivet capped its scoring with a single tally in the ninth inning. Wheeler doubled, advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a passed ball.
FOR THE COMETS
- Walter needed 92 pitches to throw his eight complete innings to earn his first win of the season. He struck out five batters and walked one.
- Senior Joseph Crosby pitched a perfect ninth inning, with two strikeouts.
- Olivet totaled seven hits in the win.
- Sella had two hits, including the aforementioned triple.
FOR THE SCARLET HAWKS
- Michael Courtney and DJ Rybski each had two hits.
- Courtney notched the lone extra base hits, with a double in the third and eighth innings.
- Ian Duke was tagged with the pitching loss after yielding four runs (two earned) on five hits in seven innings. He had six strikeouts and three walks.

- Olivet plays Central (Iowa) College tomorrow morning at Lake Myrtle. First pitch is set for noon.
