Baseball team shutout by Aquinas, 10-0
The Olivet College baseball team was shutout by Aquinas College, 10-0, in a nine-inning, non-conference game to this afternoon at Kimble Stadium in Wyoming.
WYOMING, Mich. – The Olivet College baseball team was shutout by Aquinas College, 10-0, in a nine-inning, non-conference game to this afternoon at Kimble Stadium in Wyoming.
The Saints did the majority of the damage in the fifth inning, as they plated nine runs on 10 hits. Aquinas took advantage of an Olivet error to score an unearned run in the eighth inning.
Offensively, the Comets were held to only two hits. Freshman Christopher Lanyi (Clio) and junior Drew Thompson (Canton/Salem) each had a two-out single. The only other Olivet base runner in the game was a walk by senior Andrew Engle (Greenville).
Nine different Comets pitched in the game. Sophomore Nick Taylor (Twin Lake/Holton) was the losing pitcher, as he allowed the first three runs on four hits. Sophomores Colin Boak (Fowlerville), Tom Miller (Martin)and Jared Scheese (Chelsea) and freshman Michael Strahan (Charlotte) each pitched one scoreless inning.
Olivet will resume Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play this Saturday and Sunday, April 12-13, with a four-game series against Trine (Ind.) University. The first two games will be played Saturday at Trine's Jannen Field before the series moves to Olivet's Cutler Athletic Complex for the final two games. Both doubleheaders will start at 1 p.m.
