Baseball team defeats Central, 6-4, for third straight win
The Olivet College baseball team improved to 3-0 on the season with a 6-4 win over Central (Iowa) College this morning at the Gene Cusic Classic and inside Terry Park in Fort Myers, Fla.
FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Olivet College baseball team improved to 3-0 on the season with a 6-4 win over Central (Iowa) College this morning at the Gene Cusic Classic and inside Terry Park in Fort Myers, Fla.
The Comets scored two runs in the third, fourth and sixth innings to take a 6-0 lead. In the third, sophomore Drew Thompson (Canton/Salem) had a RBI-single and an error brought in the second run. In the fourth, sophomore Joey Myers (Holt) hit a two-run single.
In the sixth, sophomore Peter Panos (Davison) and junior Joel Peters (Auburn Hills/Avondale) both recorded run-scoring singles. The Dutch plated single runs in the seventh and eighth innings, and two runs in the ninth inning. Olivet's defense turned a double play to end the game.
On the mound, junior Jake Ball (Cadillac) picked-up the win. He allowed one earned run on seven hits, with five strikeouts in seven innings. At the plate, the Comets recorded 11 total hits, all singles. Senior Andrew Brawley (Niles) was 3-for-5, while Panos had two hits. Six different Olivet players scored one run apiece.
The Comets will return to the field tomorrow afternoon for a 1 p.m. game against Kenyon (Ohio) College at the Player Development Complex in downtown Fort Myers.
