The Olivet College baseball team was defeated by Beloit (Wisc.) College, 14-3, this afternoon at the RussMatt Invitational in Auburndale, Fla.
Beloit got on the scoreboard first with two runs in the top half of the first inning. Olivet answered with three runs in its half of the first. The rest of the game was all Buccaneers, as they scored one run in the third, five runs in the fourth, two runs in the fifth and four runs in the seventh. The game ended after seven innings because of the run rule. Only four of the 14 runs scored by Beloit were earned, as the Olivet defense committed eight errors.
The lone bright spot of the Comet offense was junior Matt Smoker (Bronson), who had two hits, including a bases clearing double in the first inning. Senior Brandon Goodman (Portage/Portage Central) also finished with two hits. Senior Sean Alexander (Fenton) was charged with the loss.
Olivet will play Keystone (Pa.) College tomorrow at 9 a.m.
