Baseball team loses at Aquinas, 16-4
The Olivet College baseball team was defeated by non-conference rival Aquinas College, 16-4, this afternoon at Kimble Stadium in Wyoming.
The Olivet College baseball team was defeated by non-conference rival Aquinas College, 16-4, this afternoon at Kimble Stadium in Wyoming.
Aquinas sent 10 players to the plate and scored five runs in the first inning. Olivet got two runs back in the third inning on a throwing error. The Saints put the game out of reach with a six-run fourth inning, and they added three more runs in the fifth inning. The Comets pushed across two runs in the top half of the sixth. Aquinas took advantage of two Olivet errors to score two runs in its half of the sixth.
Four different Comets each had a base hit: doubles by senior Ryan Hodges (Swartz Creek) and junior Brad Sullens (Belleville), and singles by sophomore Beau Felix (Hartland) and sophomore Phil Sullens (Belleville). On the mound, freshman Nick McCleary (Battle Creek/Harper Creek) was credited with the loss.
Olivet will now turn its attention to a four-game Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association series this Friday and Saturday, April 10-11, against Kalamazoo College. Friday's doubleheader in Olivet will start at 2 p.m., and Saturday's games in Kalamazoo begin at 1 p.m.
