Olivet College’s Goodman and Purdy earn All-MIAA Baseball First-team honors
Olivet College juniors Brandon Goodman (Portage/Central) and Scott Purdy (Traverse City/West) have been named to the 2008 All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) First-team for baseball.
Olivet College juniors Brandon Goodman (Portage/Central) and Scott Purdy (Traverse City/West) have been named to the 2008 All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) First-team for baseball. All-MIAA honors are based on a player's statistics during the 28-game league schedule.
Goodman started every game for the Comets in leftfield. He posted a .394 batting average (39-for-99) and led the team with 28 runs scored, seven doubles, three home runs, 27 RBI, 57 total bases, .576 slugging percentage and 10 stolen bases. From his outfield position, Goodman made one error in 45 chances for a .978 fielding percentage.
Purdy, who started every game at first base, topped Olivet with a .396 batting average. His six doubles, two home runs, 20 RBI, 52 total bases and .542 slugging percentage ranked second on the team. Purdy made only three errors in 223 chances for a .987 fielding percentage.
The Comets had a 15-13 MIAA record, which was their highest finish in conference play since 2003.
