Baseball team loses twice at Adrian, 6-0 and 5-2
The Olivet College baseball team lost two games against Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) rival Adrian College today at Nicolay Field in Adrian. After being shutout 6-0 in the first game, the Comets fell in the second game, 5-2.

The Olivet College baseball team lost two games against Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) rival Adrian College today at Nicolay Field in Adrian. After being shutout 6-0 in the first game, the Comets fell in the second game, 5-2.
In the first game, Adrian (27-9, 19-5 MIAA) scored three runs in the third inning and never looked back. Olivet (15-21, 13-11 MIAA) was limited to four base hits, including two for senior Eric Quinn (Port Huron/Northern). On the mound, senior Dave Pembroke (Bay City/John Glenn) was charged with the loss. He went six innings and allowed six runs (five earned) on 10 hits. Junior Steven Oginsky (New Lothrop) pitched a scoreless inning in relief.
In the nightcap, the Comets took a 1-0 lead with a run in the second inning. Junior Scott Purdy (Traverse City/West) doubled down the right field line and came around to score on a RBI-single by sophomore Matt Smoker (Bronson).
Olivet added another run in the third inning. Junior Ryan Hodges (Swartz Creek) hit a double down the leftfield line and scored on a single up the middle by freshman Braydon LaFramboise (Flushing/Mt. Morris). Adrian got one run back in the fourth inning. The score remained 2-1 until the sixth inning when the Bulldogs pushed across four runs. The Comets brought the tying run to the plate in the seventh but failed to score.
Seven of the nine Olivet starters had at least one hit. Smoker led the way with two hits. Freshman southpaw Sean Alexander (Fenton) was credited with the loss after pitching five and one-third innings and giving up five runs on 10 hits. Sophomore Josh Norlock (Warren/Center Line) got the final out in the sixth inning.
The Comets will wrap-up the 2008 season with a four-game series against Hope College. Olivet will travel for a twinbill at Hope's Boeve Field Tuesday at 1 p.m., and then return home to face the Flying Dutchmen Wednesday in Olivet, beginning at 1 p.m.
