This week’s Dean Trailways Co-Female Comets of the Week are freshman Kaylee Clothier, of Battle Creek, and graduate of Pennfield High School, and sophomore Ariel Floyd, of Mt. Clemens, and graduate of Chippewa Valley High School. Clothier had a .400 batting average in leading the softball team to a 3-1 record last week. She hit two home runs, including a walk-off two-run shot, in a 7-5 win over Hope College. Clothier’s other hits were two doubles and two singles for a .933 slugging percentage, and she drove in nine runs over the four games.
Floyd finished in the top five in three field events at the Albion Triangular. She won the hammer throw with a school-record throw of 159 feet, 10 inches, and placed second in the discus throw (118 feet, 3 inches) and fifth in the shot put (35 feet, 3-3/4 inches). The mark in the hammer ranks No. 1 in the MIAA and No. 33 on the NCAA Division III Performance List. Floyd also ran the leadoff leg of the second-place 4x100-meter relay.
